Description
Family patriarch Orgon falls under the influence of a charismatic religious impostor, Tartuffe, who quickly takes over the entire household. As Orgon’s wife, children, and closest confidants beg him to see through Tartuffe’s deception, the family hurtles toward ruin.
Through a hilarious chain of events, this classic French farce offers a scathing and satirical look at our capacity to be dazzled—and blinded—by those who pretend to be what they are not.
First performed in 1664 under the reign of Louis XIV, the original play was forbidden to be performed in public due to its controversial subject matter. Molière’s final revised version—the one that survives today—pays proper homage to the king. We hope you enjoy our production!
